and I dunno, there’s personality, but he mostly just seems like a creepy old alcoholic/cheater

Being such give the people who date him this kind of thinking that “I’ll change him for the better.” No. No you can’t change how someone act and live for a very long by dating/marring within a few years. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so you change people that quickly.
